European Parliament Intergroup "Peace for the Saharawi people"

The European Parliament Intergroup "Peace for the Saharawi people" welcomes president XANANA GUSMAO
On january 29th 2004 the European Parliament Intergroup "Peace for the Saharawi people" meets XANANA GUSMAO, President of East Timor in Brussels.
He was welcomed by MARGOT KESSLER, chairman of the Intergroup, and MOHAMED SIDATI, minister for Europe of the RASD, many other MEP's and personalities, like for example PIERRE GALAND (President of the European Coordination of solidarity with the sahraoui people) and PEDRO PINTO LEITE, member of the platform of lawyers for East Timor and for the Western Sahara.
In his intervention, the President of Timor gave his support to the people of the Western Sahara: " the fight of our sahraoui brothers is a synonyme and a symbol of hope and was an inspiration for the people in Timor in his battle for their freedom". President XANANA GUSMAO told the UN to show more activities and power to find a definitiv solution for the Western Sahara conflict. On the other hand he asked them for a promised referendum of self determination as soon as possible.
The President of East Timor received a copy of an appeal signed by 140 MEP's in which they ask for the right of self determination of the Saharawi people. This appeal should be given to KOFI ANNAN, UN Secretary General.
